Thyroid eye disease, or TED, is an autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation in and around the eye and is closely associated with thyroid conditions like Graves’ disease.
The symptoms of TED, which is more common in women, can include dry, red and irritated eyes, so it’s often mistaken for allergies and other conditions. But that can delay treatment, and like most conditions, it’s important to treat TED early.
Here, you can learn the basics about TED, find out how to recognize symptoms and see the phases of TED.
